At the Grand Canyon - July 2013
About Me:
July 2015 My name is Lisa Kroll. I have been working with children for over 22 years. I am at a point in my life where I want more...I want to share my love of learning in a bigger way. I want to have my own classroom! I am the mother of two young adults. My son graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in May 2015 with a degree in Journalism. My daughter is a junior at IU and is working on her BFA. This fall she will be doing a college internship in Disney World, dancing in the parades and being different characters. Before having children, I wanted to be a teacher, but I also wanted to be a mother. I have been blessed with the opportunity in life to reach both of my dreams! While my children were young and growing up, I was a very involved parent volunteer. I was the President of the pre-school that my children attended, and then made myself a volunteer fixture in the PTO once they entered grade school. When my daughter entered kindergarten, I was asked if I would like to help with a "new" Literacy Program that worked with all the first grade students. For the next 13 years I spent my mornings in first grade! During that time I also still volunteered as a PTO parent, was a Girl Scout leader for four years, and was active for fourteen years on a Community Advisory Board for my local Public Television Station, WTIU. Additionally two years in a row, I was able to link another passion of mine, hands-on learning and science, by volunteering to coordinate the fundraising Gala event for the local children's science museum, WonderLab Museum of Science, Technology and Health. I believe we are all life-long learners, and as my household has turned to offering me more free time to do what I love, doing what I love has meant going back to school so I can have my own classroom! I believe that life is too short and children should be allowed to explore their curiosities about life, especially while in elementary school. A talented teacher is one who can use what children know, and what is relevant to them, and help each independently channel their knowledge. |
